Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I buy firewood logs from Lakes Logs?

At Lakes Logs, we work hard to provide our customers with quality hardwood logs that are sourced both locally and sustainably. Our logs are Ready to Burn certified by Woodsure, meaning they have a low moisture content of less than 20% - giving you a long, slow burn and maximum heat efficiency from your fuel.

What is 'Ready to Burn'?

Ready to Burn wood means it has been certified for immediate use. It has a moisture content of less than 20%, so it burns with less smoke than wetter wood - giving you a longer burn and maximum heat efficiency and reducing pollution. The Ready to Burn scheme is backed by the Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in support of The Air Quality Regulations 2020 (England), meaning wood that is certified as 'Ready to Burn' (such as ours) meets the requirements for wood that can legally be used as fuel in your home.

If you have specific concerns regarding your delivery options, please do get in touch.

Are your logs provided from sustainable sources?

We use only hardwood obtained locally from forestry and arboriculture contractors felling trees that are either damaged or due for felling for property management purposes.

This makes our processing a little more onerous as we are not simply buying in straight timber from abroad, but it does mean that the logs you buys from us are 100% sustainably sourced.

What is the best way to store my logs?

To keep moisture levels low and prevent rot, we recommend storing your logs in a dry, well-ventilated area with protection from the weather. Keep your logs off the ground with space between them to allow air to move freely.

Can your logs be used for wood burning stoves and open fires?

All our logs are suitable for wood-burning stoves, open fires and fire pits.

What is the difference between kiln dried logs and seasoned logs?

Seasoned logs are dried naturally through an open-air process, resulting in air-dried logs.

Kiln dried logs are dried in a large kiln which generally gives a quicker process.

All our logs are seasoned outside and then finished (if necessary) in the kiln to ensure a moisture content of less than 20% for a long, slow burn with maximum heat efficiency.
